The Edge, http://edgeqld.org.au/, is the State Library of Queensland’s new digital cultural centre for young Queenslanders, on the Brisbane River at Southbank.
It is “a place for experimentation and creativity, giving contemporary tools to young people to allow them to explore critical ideas, green initiatives, new design practices and media making”.
I was involved in the process of conceptualising and developing The Edge last year along with people as awesome as Dan Hill (who makes an appearance in this video) and Seb Chan of Powerhouse Museum and Cyclic Defrost fame (who doesn’t make an appearance). So I had a chance to get along in the hours before the official opening to take a sneak preview of what was happening in the building.

Hi arcus, I wonder if this wouldn’t be a great idea for Melbourne as well. It would also be interesting to learn how people get something like this funded. The problem I see is that it doesn’t seem to have any industrial value, which would make it hard to find sponsors to start something like it.
Thanks, Volker
